Since Random Harvest is on this evening, I thought I would post a couple of behind-the-scenes photos. Notice, she is barefoot in the final scene. She was too tall for Ronald Coleman.

Well Theresa the debate is over as Robert Osborne in his opening introduction stated that Greer Garson and Ronald Colman had the greatest voices in movie history. He went on to state that he thought that movies went to sound because of Ronald Colman and Greer Garson or soemthing to that regard. He gave the highest praise to Random Harvest and gave some stat that judges the success of a movie on how many weeks it appeared somewhere (can't remember where). He stated that Mrs Miniver ran for 10 weeks the highest at the time and that Random Harvest ran for 11 weeks. He stated that there is always a great deal of concern on the next movie after a huge success like Mrs Miniver and that Random Harvest was every bit as successful.
I watched it for the third time and it was actually the saddest time in viewing it for me in which I think I went through about a half a box of tissues. I knew the movie so well at this point that all the little things such as the necklace and other things that would mean so much later on and it was very sentimental for me to watch every second of the movie this time around. I lost it in just about every scene this time around. I do think that this is the most touching movie I have ever seen and can't imagine any movie being as moving for me as this. I also think that this movie along with Peter Ibbetson have ruined me for watching any other romantic movies as I think I will always be trying to compare them to these from now on for intesity of the romantic storyline.

aaaaaaawwww dan you cried?!!! thats so cute, in point of fact so did i. heehee! but i always cry at every scene in this movie. i dont know why, but i cry more so now when watching this movie than when i first saw it too. maybe it is because we have already seen it so many times and know what is coming up so we start crying in advance. last night i just couldnt stop crying to anything on it. i think to be honest i used more than half of my box of tissues. i do that when watching peter ibbetson too. heehee! but they are definitely worth it!!!!
the debate was already over with me dan. heehee! i already knew that greer and ronnie had the best voices ever in the history, well other than walter, but he comes up right after they do. heehee! the place mrs. miniver and random harvest played at Radio City Music Hall. in fact greer was pronounced queen of radio hall b/c she made such an impact with her movires. if im not mistaken, 13 of her movies played there, and i think the total weeks they all add up to are like somewhere in the eighties. isnt that amazing??!! its such a shame that she isnt more well known today like she should be. she made such an impact on the world in the forties, more so than all the other actresses then.
thanks for the pretty pics rusty!!! i love them and havent seen them before!

"aaaaaaawwww dan you cried?!!!" Well actually I still have a sinus infection so I can just blame all the tissues on that I guess. It would seem that we do the repeated viewing of this movie in the same way and get choked up in anticipation of later scenes. So with having so much similarities in are liking for this movie, do you still suggest that my second favorite movie of Greer's may be Blossom's in the Dust? If so I may have to track down the VHS on this one.

Rusty,
Stop whatever you're doing and start posting again right now!
Theresa,
I never cry during the first viewing of a movie. But each subsequent time, when I know what's coming, I'm a mess.
For example, the first time I saw LOTR III in the theatre I wasn't prepared for Aragorn's line at the end, when the hobbits show up at the coronation: "You bow to no one." It merely took my breath away. But when I saw the movie a second time, I knew what was coming and I had to bury my face in my hands to hide my sobbing. And the third time, I gritted my teeth and got through it.
(It must be a dreadful sight to see a man crying.)
And of course when Greer says "But Flora dear, it IS blue." I can't even TYPE that line without choking up.
Anyway, Greer and Ronnie also did "Berkeley Square" on the radio. Could that photo have been from THAT broadcast?
On their radio broadcast of "Random Harvest" from 1944, their voices seem so high-pitched. Do you think the tape could've been sped up?

wow dan, i dont know if blossoms will be your second favorite, but it will be pretty darn close. knowing you, you would also love pride and prejudice, mrs. parkington, and valley of decision also. because they are the kind of romances you explained that you like. but yes, blossoms makes me cry so hard in certain parts and i have a hard time getting over that one too. heehee!

Did you see what just happened on eBay?
Someone was selling a colourized version of "Random Harvest" on a Region-1 DVD!!! I had no idea that such a thing existed.
The seller seemed reputable, so I presume it was legitimate.
I sniped when there were only a few seconds to go, with what I thought was a large bid, but I was outbid by the original bidder'sd even larger bid.
It is now my lifelong quest to get a colourized version of "Random Harvest". I will go to the ends of the easrth to find it. I will not rest.
Unless one of you guys were the wiiner, and you can make copies of it for all of us.
