Greer took over from Rosalind Russell as "Auntie Mame" on Broadway in early 1958, and here is the first tantalizing page of a magazine article that I acquired in a clipping set. But I have no idea what the rest of the article says! Does anyone else have the entire article? i

i have no idea what the rest of the article says....maybe rusty knows. i hope! now i have to know what happened!
i just have lots of pictures of her from Auntie Mame and i have been wanting to get the Playbill from it with her pic on the cover, but i just havent had the time yet. i will though! heehee!
boy i would have absolutely cherished seeing this, if only i was alive when she was doing it on stage! i was so born in the wrong year. i think she did better than rosalind russell, i have the movie, the musical lucille ball did, and the original broadway soundtrack angela lansbury did. i didnt like the lucy version, i would have ratheres angela lansbury play the musical version on screen, and i didnt like roz russell in the original movie version. i would have LOVED if greer was in the movie versiuon, then we could see her do it.

You are right, Theresa, I just happen to have the magazine in which the article appeared. It's called "Censored" from November 1959. Here is the 1-page article. It's quite amusing. Apparently, the publisher never thought Julia Misbehaves would be shown on TV someday, therefore, exposing their lie. She wears a tablecloth, not a towel. I have also posted a photo of her wrapping up in the tablecloth, and it's quite clear that she was wearing a bathing suit underneath. There were tabloids in 1959 too!!!!

oh thank you rusty! that article is quite amusing if i must say so!
i loved reading it, thanks for the picture of her throwing her slip to walter towards the firplace, i hadnt seen that one yet. i had see the table cloth one though. i thought it was rather humorous when i first saw it. heehee!
i just received a packet of greer clippings from ebay and one of them is an article from a hollywood studio magazine with her in the bathtub from julia misbehaves, but instead of "the greer garson strip", it says, "the ladies who bathe", you know like the song, "to the ladies who lunch" from sweeney todd? i thought that was rather hilarious!

Theresa, I don't mind at all if you add these to your collection. It's a shame her performance was never filmed. Our loss! Yes, Greer never smoked, but Auntie Mame did.
