If it turns out that Blossoms is not going to be on TCM, can I take you up on your offer to record it for me? I'm not sure how advanced you are at recording things but any kind of transfer of it to watch would be better than nothing.

Fab movie and I adore little Tony, cried buckets, loved Greer's face when explaining to Damon about dancing and marking time with Walter(priceless).

Hi Theresa,
I just finished watching Blossoms in the Dust and must say that I was overcome with emotion with this wonderful story of self-sacrifice. I was not expecting the turn of events with Walter Pidgeon's role in the movie.
I seen at the biginning that it looks like this movie was based on a real life story. The parts with the little boy Tony were wonderful and this movie moves right up to the top ranks of my all time favorite movies. The version you sent was in color and am not sure if it were originally filmed in color but did get a chance to see her and her wonderful red hair.
This and random harvest are my favorite movies of Greer's so far and look forward to watching Pride and Prejudice next when I get another chance to watch another one of Greer's movies.

i told you you would love it dan. heehee!
it was her first film in colr actually originally released in color. it was never in black and white. heehee!
it is one of my favs too, and i didnt expect what happened in it either when i first saw this. yes it is based on a real life story. edna gladney really lived in texas(which i found particularly fascinating heehee), but she never had a child in real life or never had an adopted sister. i love little tony too, and actually tony was played by a little girl they made look like a little boy. heehee! its olay she was perfect and couldnt have done any better.
i know the emotion in this movie is very overwhelming at certain points!! sometimes i cant handle it, but i try. heehee!

I just wish that I could see a movie where Walter Pidgeon is the star in a Greer Garson movie and is in every single second of the footage. He seems to disappear far to much in her movies. For example the boat scene where he leaves for a good bit in Mrs Miniver. Also him dying halfway through the Blossoms in the Dust movie was a let down. It almost seems like he is not an equal star with Greer in the movies. Ronald Colman was in Random Harvest even more than Greer was but it seems to be the opposite for Greer and Walter. I don't know as I guess I will have to watch more of their movies together. I guess I just want to see a movie where he has equal time with Greer or even more time just to see what he is capable of. He did have a commanding role in Mrs Minver but was not on the screen as much as Greer and the movie was centered around Mrs. Miniver. I would say that Ronald Colman probably had twice the amount of screen time in Random Harvest than did Greer. This is not to say that I don't want to see Greer on screen as much as Walter, but I need to see Walter carry a movie like Colman did in Random Harvest before I will put him on equal terms with Colman as an actor.

Does anyone know what movies Walter Pidgeon did where he was the supreme star and every single second of footage and plot was centered around him on film. Until I see him in this type of movie, he will not move up in my rankings of favorite actors. He did not even have this type of part in the movie that made him a star How Green was my Valley as the story did not focus around him and he was only on screen at various times during the movie. Perhaps he had a more commanding role as an actor in Madame Curie. I will have to watch him in that one next. Mrs Minver was the closest to this type of commanding role that I have seen him in but still he did not carry the story along with his role as in a Gary Cooper movie or ronald Colman movie. With watching a Gary Cooper movie there is little doubt on any of his movies of whom carries the story with his role in it. I suppose that Greer Garson like Bette Davis were just too big of stars to have such a dominating actor star with them in any of their movies.

well greer actually wanted walter to have more screen time but the directors didnt think so, you have to see madame curie dan, many consider that to be one of his finest roles, and he did splendidly in it! he should have won the oscar for madame curie, he was literally amazing in it. he is in most of the scenes with greer by his side, you will love it!!!

Their is a movie where he is in, but still, he isn't the 'main' person. It's called "Forbiddin Planet". I really hated it, but it was intresting to see him in a sci-fi movie! I LOVE Madame Curie. I think he was REALLY good in it!

Thanks Theresa for another reason to watch Madame Curie next. I do love Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon together, but it is just so frustrating wanting to see Watler's character get more developed and then have him get killed off or disappear for a while in the story.
The movie Blossoms in the Dust got very powerful after Walter was no longer around and was the best and most emotional part of the film but would have loved to seen Walter's character go through this all with Greer instead of Greer just looking at his picture for strength at the end. So I don't have anything against Walter as an actor but have been so disappointed on his limted roles in Greer's movies, which like you stated was the fault of the directors. He was certainly capable of being Greer's equal in movies but was never given the chance so far in my viewing. Perhaps like you said Madame Curie will not be as disappointing for me to watch as a fan of Walter's. I am sure Greer will not let me down as she always got very powerful roles that brought out the tremendous talents as an actress she had perfectly.
Walter was very good in Mrs Minver and so far it my favorite performance of his with or without Greer.

i should let you know, dan, walter dies in madame curie, but it happens close to the ane. pierre curie really died like that in life so they kinda had to put that in there, i hope that doesnt make you not want to watch it, b/c he is in most of it, and he really is amazing in it! i hope you like it dan.
