mrs. parkington starts out with greer being in her eighties. she has a lot of makeup on to make her look this old, but she is still beautiful. heehee! anyway, she dreams back to when she was a teenager in a small town in america, where her and her mother run a boarding house. this is where she meets her handsome future husband major parkington(walter), who is a very rich man. there is a mining accident ehile he is visiting there and her mother is killed in the accident, so he takes susie(greer) away from there and marries her.
when they first caught glance of each other from a window he winked at her and she winked back, although she claimed she didnt mean to. it was love at first sight. *sigh*
the morning after her wedding night, she wakes up to find espasia(agnes moorehead) at her bedside. she was major parkington's love before susie came along. she was there to "help" her with her clothing and fashion, and to help her adjust to this new life full of wealth. susie didnt think anything of the wealth actually.GOOD FOR HER! the story goes on with them having a couple children and them growing old together quite beautifully. they fall in love over and over and over again with each other. such a romantic story and greer got another oscar nomination well deserved for this grand story.

Relaxing between scenes. It's hard to sit with a bustle.

LOVED EVERY MINUTE, thought Greer looked so gorgeous when Walter was playing Pool or snooker with the english lady and Prince Edward, she sure made a gorgeous grandmother hope I look like that at 80, altho she was still gorgeous in real life all though her years on earth.

i love the pool room scene when he is really nervous with his lover and his wife in the same room and they were arguing over weather he drinks champagne of whiskey after dinner. heehee! too funny, and peter lawford is handsome, but never seems to take his eyes off greer throughout the whole time he is on in this movie. watch it again and you will se what i mean. heehee! i hope i look that gorgeous with luittle streaks of gray hair when i become a grandmother too. i also love that scene right aftter where greer doesnt let him into her room, and he climbs the balcony like in romeo and juliet to get to her, and then he has to crawl through that little tiny hole.....it was oh too romantic and i love every second! i still do. heehee!

I was just in a local bookstore looking at Simon Callow's book on Orson Welles. Callow is the actor from "Four Weddings and a Funeral" (he's the funeral). He's also Rev. Beebe in "A Room With a View."
Usually when I look in the index of a movie start bio under the G's, it's got Gable, Garbo, and Garland but no Garson. But this time there was a reference to Garson! Callow says that MGM tried to persuade Orson Welles to play the Prince of Wales in "Mrs. Parkington" in 1944, the role that was actually played by Cecil Kellaway.
Woulda bin kewl.

Notice that Simon Callow, Orson Welles, and Greer Garson all have a 5-letter Christian name and a 6-letter surname.
