Here are some photos taken at Greer & Buddy's 20,000 acre cattle ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico. I have already posted the cover of this magazine, but will do so again. The other pictures are from the inside article called "Formula for Fun and Gracouis Living" from the 1960's. A quote from the article......"They found their own personal Shangri-la on a pinon covered hill...." Greer with her dogs Pasco and Pinkie

Yes, Theresa, I do own this magazine. I was lucky enough to win it on e-bay about 18 months ago. There's a great article called "Formula for Fun & Gracious Living" included. Forked Lightning was a "working" cattle ranch. It was very casually decorated in a southwest style. If you remember from her biography, Buddy said to her "don't fancy this place up", and she didn't. There were 10 quest bedrooms, plus a guest house. They did a lot of entertaining and had many celebrities and famous people as quests. The ranch is now part of the Pecos National Park. It was donated to the park around 1990 or 1991 after Buddy's death. It must have been lonely for Greer to go there by herself, since for almost 40 years it had been their "Shangri-la". You can tour the ranch by appointment only. The tours are once a week on Sunday for about 90 minutes. We almost went to Santa Fe this summer on vacation, and I called the park to check on availability of tours. These pictures are from a website called flicker. www.flickr.com/search/?q=pecos+national+park&page=11Flickr: Search They include a couple of the guest rooms. The website has about 30 photos. Someone named Smooglie posted their vacation pictures on this site, under Pecos National Park. Many people have posted photos of the Pecos Ruins, but not of the ranch. The Ruins are open to the public on a daily basis, but not the ranch. The house looks a little empty. Around the time it was donated, most of the Indian rugs, wonderful paintings and accessories were auctioned off. Also some of the furniture. I purchased a catalog from the auction showing these items. They had some "very expensive" rugs, paintings and accessories. There was also a real stagecoach. What's left isn't very impressive. I would love to see more pictures of how it looked when they lived there. Even the grounds are showing signs of neglect. I guess the National Park can't afford to keep it up as they should. Anyway, I hope you enjoy. Rusty
